Liane N°4 Wall Light

The Liane, a significant piece in the oeuvre of Royere, held in the collection at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, embodies the essence of Royere’s work. As if growing across the wall, undulating lines, organic yet balanced, drawn on a blank slate, sprout a series of lamps as if blossoms on the branch. All superfluous detail is reduced and one is left only with a gesture of the hand.

Presented for the first time at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs in 1959, this celebrated light testifies to Jean Royère’s ornamental repertoire liberally inspired by the plant world.
